On October 18th, 2023, Tsinghua University Press and Springer Nature Group held a collaboration summary event with the theme “Promote the Voices of Chinese Scholars on the World Stage” in the collective China booth at the 75th Frankfurt International Book Fair.
Dr. Niels Peter Thomas, President of Greater China as well as Managing Director for Books from Springer Nature delivered opening remarks. Dr. Qiu Xianqing, President of Tsinghua University Press (TUP), summarized the collaboration between Springer Nature and TUP. Representative authors from well-known Chinese universities such as Tsinghua University, Beihang University, and Beijing Institute of Technology shared their academic works in respective fields via video speeches, and expressed their expectations that Chinese and international publishers can continue to enhance the global influence of China's scientific community. Harmen van Paradijs, VP Publishing STM Books & Business Optimization, Ms. Li Yan, Regional Director for Books, China and Editorial Director for Humanities and Social Sciences, Springer Nature, and Shi Lei, Deputy General Editor and Director of Journal Publishing, TUP also attended the event.
Tsinghua University Press and Springer Nature Collaboration Summary Event
It is the shared mission of Chinese publishers to deepen cultural exchanges between different civilizations. Dr. Qiu Xianqing mentioned in his speech that "promoting advanced culture" is the fundamental principle of TUP. TUP attaches great importance to publishing academic works that reflect China's overall scientific achievements, and insists on stepping up academic exchanges between China and the West through international cooperation. Over the past three decades, TUP has co-published about 130 English academic monographs by Chinese scholars together with Springer, covering various fields of natural and social sciences. There are not only works in engineering, information technology and medicine such as Electromagnetic Transients of Power Electronics Systems, Intelligent Road Transport Systems: An Introduction to Key Technologies, and Atlas of Chest Imaging in COVID-19 Patients, but also academic monographs on humanities and social sciences, such as G20 Entrepreneurship Services Report, Economic Lessons from China’s Forty Years of Reform and Opening-up, and Middle-Income Trap: An Analysis Based on Economic Transformations and Social Governance, as well as outstanding doctoral theses by young scholars.
