On January 13, a new DK Series was released by Tsinghua University Press. It includes 3 titles: Art: A Visual History, Super Simple Maths and Super Simple Physics. More than 30 guests from Tsinghua University Press(TUP), DK Limited, news media, e-commerce platforms, short video entrepreneurs, etc., witnessed the release of the new titles, a cooperation milestone between TUP and DK Limited.
Release of the new DK series
Published in 2005 and revised twice in 2015 and 2020, Art: A Visual History is a comprehensive overview of human art, presenting the development of world art from prehistory to contemporary times in chronological order, with illustrated descriptions of more than 700 artists and more than 2,500 art works. Author Robert Cumming, founder and former President of Christie's Education, is an adjunct professor in the Department of Fine Arts at Boston University and has won several international awards for his works. The Chinese version was translated by Deng Xiaoyan, a Doctor of Arts at the Chinese Academy of Arts and an associate professor at the Central Academy of Fine Arts. The book was also reviewed by Professor Li Jianqun of the Central Academy of Fine Arts and Professor Zou Qingquan of the Guangzhou Academy of Fine Arts.
Sharing the same style and focus of the successful How to Be Good at Maths and How to Be Good at Science, Technology, and Engineering, the target readers of Super Simple Physics and Super Simple Maths are senior primary and junior high school students, and use diagrams and tables to illustrate key concepts of mathematics and physics, helping readers to excel in the classroom and in exams. How to Be Good at Maths was translated by Yang Ying, instructor of Haidian Famous Teacher Workstation, supervisor of the National Teacher Qualification Certificate National Examination, Principal of Changping Yuefu Primary School of Tsinghua University High School, and senior mathematics teacher. How to Be Good at Science, Technology, and Engineering was translated by Liu Na, a former senior physics teacher at the High School Affiliated to the Renmin University of China, who won the first prize in the National Middle School Physics Young Teachers’ Competition, and graduated from the Department of Physics of Tsinghua University.

Caroline Purslow said that this year marks the 50th anniversary of Dorling Kindersley (DK), and has achieved widespread sales in over 100 countries and regions. Whether it is encyclopedia titles, knowledge books, or various interest-based publications, DK consistently provided readers with inspiring and engaging reading experiences. With its unique style and profound content, and DK sparked readers’ interest in exploring knowledge. Caroline Purslow wished to provide readers with a more diverse and in-depth reading experience through integration of different cultures, and looked forward to working closely with TUP to publish more works and consistently expand the scope of cooperation.

CHEN Lingyun, director of the Editorial Office of TUP, introduced the creative process, planning, content features and target readers of the series, as well as the portfolio of DK titles; WANG Wenhong, Chairman of the Board of Beijing Wantstime Technology Company Ltd., shared the translation story of the titles on behalf of the translators, emphasizing their focus on seeking truth, using the most concise and beautiful language, and their great efforts in presenting the best content to readers in the most accessible style.
In the second half of the event, Mr. LIANG Ying, Assistant to the President and Director of the Distribution Department of TUP, introduced the new media marketing plan of TUP, and expresses hopes that the media and distribution channels cooperate with TUP in depth to promote the new DK series.
LIANG Qing, the person in charge of Children's Books, JD.com pointed out in the discussion part that TUP has always been an important partner of JD Children's Books and DK one of JD.com's best-selling brands; the new series is exquisitely crafted and boasts high content quality, and JD would make great efforts in promote its sales.
CHEN Qiankun, head of Yijia Matrix, said that as the earliest distribution channel to carry out new media cooperation with TUP, Yijia currently have more than 400,000 agents with its four social media accounts, reaching more than 30 million C-end users and ranking first in Kuaituan Children's Books. Yijia intended to build a long-term relationship with TUP and enable the high-quality DK titles to reach as many users as possible.
WANG Junfeng, the anchor of Kuaishou Family Education Account "Brother Feng Talks About Education", pointed out that he felt honored to be named the Most Popular Author and receive the Best-Selling New Book Award issued by TUP, and hoped to let more Chinese parents know about the new DK series and enjoy the high-quality education products of TUP through his live-streaming broadcasts.
